Mammoth Sunflower
Mammoth sunflower, Helianthus annuus, is the classic “big one”. These towering plants can grow well over 10 feet tall and produce massive seed heads packed with plump seeds. As the season winds down, the heavy heads naturally droop, signaling maturity and giving them that iconic late-summer look. Our squirrels and birds love them, often getting to the seeds before we do.

First year planting these and they have been so fun to watch grow (southern PA). Mine are well over 10 ft tall probably closer to 15+. We planted 3 seeds to up our germination rates and ended up with two plants this year.
