Zinnia

The girls love their zinnias. They told me we need more than just peppers. Like what? Flowers! Next thing you know we’re arguing about which zinnia seeds have to go on the website… so here we are. Attract some bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds!

By late spring, we always have an extra yard or two of our compost/manure/top garden blend. One of our favorite things to do with leftover soil is to make quick pop-up flower beds: about four inches of soil right on top of existing grass, scatter zinnia, sunflower, or wildflower seeds, lightly cover, and water well for the first week.

Boom! Instant flower garden. By the time any grass or weeds think about pushing through, the flowers have already filled in thick enough to take over on their own.
