Dragon’s Breath Pepper
The Dragons Breath pepper is an extraordinary chili pepper cultivar, known for its extreme heat, measuring a staggering 2.48 million Scoville Heat Units. This heat level surpasses that of law-enforcement grade pepper spray, making it one of the most potent chilies in the world. Developed through a collaboration involving chili farmer Neal Price, NPK Technology, and Nottingham Trent University, the Dragon’s Breath was initially bred during a test of special plant food and explored for its essential oil, potentially useful as a skin anesthesic.
Dragon’s Breath peppers are bumpy, wrinkly, downright ugly. They often featuring a tiny tail that indicates their high heat levels. These pods ripe from green to red. Despite their fiery nature, they provide a fruity flavor, which is pretty nifty considering their incredible heat.
The plants themselves typically grow to about four feet in height and are known for their productivity. This makes them a great addition to any chili grower’s collection. However, given their extreme heat, caution is advised when handling or consuming these peppers, as they can pose a risk if not treated with respec.
