Lemon Bomb Shell
New Dec. 2024 – F4 seed. Selective breeding of Aji Lemon x Aji Mango.
If you’re a fan of peppers that offer a unique blend of heat and fruitiness, this Aji Lemon cross is a must-try. A member of the Capsicum baccatum species, it has yellow color and citrus-like sweetness, with a respectable heat level. It is not your average hot pepper. It is less sharp and harsh, more full-bodied, and a lot more subtle than other chilis. The heat level is significant but not overbearing, similar to a hot serrano. Heat is currently inconsistent with some fruit estimated at about 20K SHU while others are closer to the 5K mark. Heat only found in the placenta.
The shape is a near perfect lemon. Color is stable, shape is nearly stable.
Growing
This pepper is a high-yielding plant that can reach up to 3.5 feet in height. The peppers themselves grow no longer than an inch. They start off green, maturing to a lemony yellow. It’s an 80-90 day grower, ideal for full sun conditions, and sprouts in 6-14 days. If you’ve had success with other Capsicum baccatum varieties like the Aji Amarillo, you’ll find this chili to be a rewarding addition to your garden.
Uses
This is a fantastic pepper for cooking, pickling, and making mild fruity hot sauce. Its unique flavor profile allows it to stand out in any dish, and you can even reduce its heat significantly by removing the seeds and placenta. This makes it an excellent choice for stuffing to create a very colorful popper while providing only a mild heat to the finished dish.
This pepper is our go-to when it comes time to make fancy jellies for Christmas gifts.
So, if you’re looking to mix up your pepper collection with something exotic, flavorful, and experimental Lemon Bomb Shell should be at the top of your list.
Why Lemon Bomb Shell? Our oldest has been packing many orders this fall – she got the chance to give this new creation a name!
F4 seed: We strongly recommend growing a few plants at a time. There is a slight chance for some funky phenotypes.
