Aji Margariteno
Delicious intense flavor with a little bit of heat —then the Aji Margariteno is your go-to pepper. This Capsicum chinense variety hails from Margarita Island in Venezuela. Low heat C. chinense peppers, like the habanada and Grenada Seasoning are always fun treats! Aji Margariteno was first offered to the public by Lindberg Figueroa just over a decade ago. This pepper can be found in various colors, typically red and yellow. This particular lineage has maintained yellow for the last three generations. Is red possible? Yes. Not likely – but possible.
Flavor and Heat
This pepper will not toast those taste buds; it’s about the flavor. It is a versatile pepper that can be used in a variety of dishes. Its low heat makes it ideal for salsas and hot sauces for those more adverse to face ripping heat… and even for pickling. Thin walls also makes this pepper excellent for dehydrating and making seasoning powder or flakes.
If the Aji Margariteno has piqued your interest, you might also want to explore other unique peppers like the Aji Amarillo, Aji Pineapple, Aji Charapita, and Aji Cristal. Each of these peppers offers its own set of unique flavors and heat levels, making them excellent additions to authenic SA cuisine.
So, if you’re looking to add some Venezuelan flair to your garden and your kitchen, Aji Margariteno seeds are the way to go.
