Early Jalapeno
The staple of all garden staples. Even your non-chilihead friends grow these peppers in their gardens!
It seems unnecessary to go into significant details, but, here we go!
The Early Jalapeno is a variant of the classic Jalapeno pepper. As the name implies, fruit develop and ripen early. Great for areas with cooler climate and a short grow season.
These dark-green, thick-walled peppers, measuring about 3 inches in cone-shaped form, ripen to red and are hottest when fully ripe, reaching 4,000 to 6,000 Scoville units. While hotter, they may not necessarily taste hotter due to increase sugar in the fruit when fully ripe.
Most folks pick and use jalapenos in the green stage. Fruit are ideal for Mexican dishes and pickling. The plant typically grows 20 to 24 inches tall with a diameter of 10 to 12 inches, making it a perfect size or both garden and container-growing.
