Black Hungarian Pepper
This distinct heirloom pepper’s most noticeable feature is its deep purple-black color. immature fruit are very dark nearly black but they will eventually mature to a deep maroonish red. Fruit are reminiscent of a jalapeno, growing up to 3 inches long, these peppers offer a rich, smoky flavor with a mildly spicy kick, ranging between 2,500 to 7,500 SHU. Originally from Hungary (Yes, technically the new world, but the cultivar was honed in Europe), the Black Hungarian pepper is both ornamental, with its striking fruits and beautiful purple flowers, and practical, ideal for traditional dishes or adding a unique twist to fresh salsas.
