Lemon Spice Jalapeno Seeds
Lemon Spice Jalapeno is a bright yellow jalapeno developed by the Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University. The peppers start green and ripen to a strong lemon-yellow color, while keeping about the same heat as a traditional jalapeno.
The flavor is still very much jalapeno, but with a little more fruitiness and a light citrus note once fully ripe.
How It Was Developed
Lemon Spice was created through traditional breeding by crossing Early Jalapeno with a bell pepper called Permagreen. The goal was to keep the familiar jalapeno shape and heat while adding the unusual yellow ripe color.
Growing and Uses
Plants are productive, and the peppers have fairly thick walls. They work well for salsa, nachos, tacos, pickling, or anywhere you would normally use a jalapeno.
The bright yellow pods also look great on the plant, especially in containers or mixed pepper gardens.
